Wonder what would happen if the members demanded the union bosses get arrested instead, since it’s their PR idea? Might indicate to the members that the bosses are standing behind them – instead of hiding behind them. Shouldn’t have to make 50 members lose a day’s work to do it.

In reply to LJ. Thing you have to remember about SANDS is they no longer own anything in North America. They had three properties - Venetian, Pallazo, and Sands Bethlehem (in PA). They sold the PA property years ago. Believe Venetian and Palazzo were sold last year to two private equity firms (a REIT and an operator).

In reply to Clean Colleen. A news story this week in Forbes talked about how Vegas hotel rooms are not being cleaned daily even at 5-star places. They interviewed a housekeeper at MGM and she told them the hotel was short-staffed on housekeepers and she'd been instructed not to do a thorough room cleaning every day, and to skip some rooms unless the guest had explicitly placed the sign on outside of door requesting room cleanup. That way she could get thru with the assigned rooms/floor. She said she was getting yelled at often by angry customers for not cleaning their room that thought rooms automatically get cleaned every day like they did pre-covid. She said she gets $21/hour at MGM.

Drink service is valuable, but it’s incredible how much we expect bartenders to be paid pouring rum in Coke. Housekeepers. Not all are worth their wage. But I’d like to know how they do. They’re the most under rated, and like under valued, part of my casino experience. Yeah yeah, no workers, no casino. I get all that. But who provides me with the most important personal service? The people who worked before I set foot in the door, presumably cleaning and sanitizing my room so that I don’t get weirded out by hair on the bathroom floor. Although there’s nothing they can do about the bedspread. I’ll always be weirded out by that.

Sands Corp is about to do a 2 BILLION dollar stock buyback and you figure corporate greed and reasonable wages for union employees are pretty much the same? Do you have the same view of the airlines, who did year after year of stock buybacks only to need tax dollars when times turned down, only to keep squeezing their customers and employees? Or the big banks?
C’mon Scott, this was, as usual, a great article but get real. Try talking to an Amazon or Walmart employee, most of whom have zero ownership in the companies they work for, about “corporate greed.”
